Description

The Original Gardner Weed Rake, as originally developed by Gardner's very own Lewis Read. The Weed Rake was born on the Car Park Lake at Yateley and is designed to be easily cast to clear small clear spots of weed and create clear channels to improve line lay to new and existing clear spots. The Weed Rake is invaluable on some waters in the warmer months and has lead to the capture of some of the largest Carp in the country.

Features

  • All metal Brass and Steel construction will never break.
  • Only 3 ounces (85g), it is a very comfortable weight to cast.
  • Supplied with a large split ring and swivel for attachment to main line.
  • Green Anti Rust coating.
  • Width = 15cm (6"), Body Length = 4cm (1.5").

Top Tip - We recommend that you use a strong braid such as 50lb Braid and begin clearing the channel to your chosen spot from the end nearest to your swim first. The weed rake picks up very large quantities of weed if cast behind a band of weed so be careful not to lose the rake and braid by being 'over ambitious' in trying to rake in too much heavy weed in one go.

There are occasions when a bit of effort raking spots can lead to bonus captures. I have been putting this castable rake to the test on a very weedy Kingsmead 1. Attached to a spod rod with heavy braid, the rake easily clears channels in the thick Canadian pondweed, enabling you to get your lines down and concealed. I like the fact that it is not too heavy and can be cast easily and accurately. This also means that it doesnt sink too fast through the weed, enabling floating weed to be removed as well as growth from the lake bed. The heavy-duty construction means that it can cope with huge rafts of weed, although I recommend not trying to remove too much in one go because it can become extremely heavy. This is an invaluable tool if you are angling on a weedy venue.
