Description

  • When designing the ACS reel, we wanted to offer the best functionality we could. That’s why the ACS offers immense winding power with strong gearing that’s designed to cope with hard fighting fish and constant feeder retrieval. The excellent line lay ensures accurate distance casting is made easier, and the super smooth drag system ensures the optimum level of reaction and fish control.
  • The new award winning ACS 4000 reel features innovation that has never been seen before on a reel. The Auto Clip System (ACS) is unlike any other line clip on the market. It has the ability to release the line automatically if a fish runs to the clip. The clip is totally safe and will not release the line from the clip until you want it to. This is achieved by simply back winding or playing the fish of the drag system. The line is never damaged as there is no clamping of the line like on normal line clips.

Every few years I see an invention that has the potential to change the way we fish. This is one such product. Welcome to the worlds first line clip that automatically releases when a big fish runs away from you. The implications of this invention are enormous. For the first time, you can clip up your line to cast tight to a feature like an island or aerator, and not have to worry about being cracked off if a big fish picks up your bait and screams off. If you are one of the many anglers who fish bolt rig style using either a Method feeder, splasher waggler or a specimen big lead approach, the Auto Clip System reel allows you to land your bait on precisely the same spot every time, yet still have a normal clutch to fight the fish. I first saw a prototype of this invention around 18 months ago when it was still on the top secret list, and confess to being sceptical about how well it would perform. Having just become the first angling journalist to fish with the ACS I can tell you it works! Once youve clipped up, the first job is to attach a visual marker so that, if a big fish does pull the line out of the clip, you can reclip at the same position. Using a standard stop knot I tried different materials for the marker. The best turned out to be fluorescent braided fly reel backing. It doesnt slip (like wool), it is limp enough to fly through the rod rings without fouling (unlike pole elastic) and is dead easy to see (unlike cotton.) You could also use a small piece of bright electricians tape on the line. There is one downside to the ACS, though. After casting and hitting the line clip, it is critical that you manually turn the spool so that, when the bail arm closes, it pushes the line into the clip, rather than pushing it out. If you dont, the system is useless. After a few sessions, this process should become automatic. Youll also find that, by using a highly visible stop knot marker, you can quickly clip back up while playing a big fish. The ACS system is only available on a MAP 4000 (feeder) size free runner reel at the moment, but more types will be released on MAP reels in the summer

Most of the stands on show had a product that would fit into this category. Its great how top-quality products are now seemingly so inexpensive. The top of the pile for us was the MAP ACS 4000 reel. From a distance it looks like any other 4000-sized rear-drag reel. However, its key component is the Auto Clip System (ACS). Unlike any other line-clip facility this has the ability to release the line if a fish runs to the clip and you need to undo it quickly. But with the ACS theres no need for the angler to try and pull the line as the reel does it itself its all to do with the angles created when the line pulls from behind the bail arm. The clip is totally safe and wont release the line until the angle is created, so when the line hits the clip on the cast the angle is too acute for the line to be released. Its a very clever idea that works 100 per cent of the time. The line is never damaged because there is no clamping of the line like on normal clips. However, this whole system creates one small problem: once your line has been released, how do you get back to the exact point where you were clipped up? Well, the answer is to use a line marker (wax pen or stop knot) to show you where the clipped-up point is. The ACS reel has a rear-drag facility and a free-spool system. In the pipeline are other sized reels, and possibly a front-drag version with the ACS. One main key feature is the Worm Shaft System that improves the line lay, which is normally only available on reels costing over £100. The reel has been made exclusively for MAP using brand-new tooling and the ACS is patented so you will not find it on any other reel. The ACS 4000 comes with two spare aluminium spools, a padded reel case and costs only £69.99.
