Q

Looking at purchasing a penn tidal rod and reel for my son to fish rock edges and rough ground. Which rod do you suggest would be best. And also what reel to pair with this rod that can cope with the conditions.

By Steve Obrien - Newcastle upon tyne - 27th Nov 2024
A
Hi Steve, If your fishing over rough ground then the specs say the 13.7ft/4.20m - Colour Blue, 13.7ft/4.20m - Colour Red or the 14.7ft/4.50m - Colour Blue are all rated for heavy ground. As for your choice of reel. Please see our reply to your other message. Regards TackleUK

Q

What rod would you recommend for fishing off the South Coast beaches - from say, around Brighton / Worthing to perhaps Chesil? I will also be doing a bit of Pier and Harbour fishing with them as well.... Thanks!

By Richard Dommett - Telford - 8th Jan 2024

Hi Richard, The grey one would certainly handle the kind of weights your looking to use. If the sort of venues your approaching are relatively clean, then its a great choice. Regards TackleUK'

Q

i would like to pair this rod up with a penn spinfisher live liner reel. which model would you recommend? and in addition how would line the recommended live liner, including type of line, its beaking strain and any backing line that might be necessary.

By robert robertson - london - 17th Jul 2023
A
Hi Robert, I've checked with our resident sea fishing expert, and they have advised the Penn Spinfisher VI live liner reel should be a suitable paring for estuary fishing, with all three of the rods, you have enquired about. The 6500 sizes would be better suited than 7000. Mono backing should be fine with Braid on top if required. It does ultimately come down to personal choice, but hope this helps. Kind regards Tackleuk

Q

Are these suitable for multiplier reels? Many thanks!

By ross barter - wellington - 8th Jun 2023
A
Hi Ross, The rod has a screw type reel fitting rather than coasters, so it is aimed more at fixed spool reels rather than multipliers. Kind regards Tackleuk

Q

Hi I have a Penn Fierce IV Reel Size LL6000, would this be compatible with the Rod ? Many thanks

By Billy Nguyen - London - 24th May 2023
A
Hi Billy, That specific reel is probably slightly under gunned, I'd recommend something slightly larger to pair with this rod. Kind regards Tackleuk

Q

Hi, is there any reason you couldn't use a multiplier on this rod and what are the benefits of coasters over a screw reel seat?

By James Carter - Bedfordshire - 21st May 2023
A
Hi James, As the rod has a screw type reel fitting these tend to be further down, so aren't suited to multipliers. Coasters can be moved to your designed position, where as a screw type is just in one position. Kind regards Tackleuk
