Can this be used on sandy beaches, if so what is the difference between soft tip of this one and the long surf version? Also what would be the best reel to pair with it for under £150 from a decent brand?

Hi Dan,
Yes, it should be able to. The Long Surf version, would have a stiffer action. In regards to a reel something like a Penn Battle III in an 8000 size, should be suitable.
