Description
Preston Innovations Stotz are a hybrid shot designed for use on larger diameter lines (they also work perfectly on fine diameters too). The wide groove makes placing them on the line quick and easy. Another advantage is the increased surface area that grips the line. This prevents damage and also stops the Stotz pinging off under stress. The flat ends of Stotz produce a neat bulk when they are grouped together. The dispenser includes sizes 8 to 11.

It took me a little while to warm to Stotz, but now I cant ever imagine going fishing without them.
I suppose the reason was that I still do a lot of fine presentation pole fishing for roach, and I felt they were just a bit too big for the sizes.
Preston have reacted by bringing out two smaller sizes, No12 and No13, and it may well be that I start to use them for my drain and canal fishing.
However, where Stotz really come into their own is on commercials. With traditional shot we used to have the problem of the split not being big enough for even 0.14mm and 0.16mm line.
The shot would go on, but under pressure when fighting a big fish, shot would all too often ping off. Youd only realise next put-in when the float wouldnt sit right, and you would have to shot the float up again, thus losing valuable fishing time.
Stotz have made this problem a thing of the past. A cross between shot and styls if you like, the deep groove and increased surface area on the line compared to shot means that they easily go onto even the thickest line you are likely to use at commercials, even in the smallest sizes.
I have just stated using the No12 and No13 sizes, and even these easily go onto my 0.21mm Powerline, and Ive never had one ping off yet.
Whats more they are very soft and easily moved up and down the line without any sign of damaging, and when pushed together form a neater bulk than standard shot.
You can generally remove shot quite easily by biting on the opposite side to the split. Thats not quite as easy with Stotz, but Preston has introduced a gadget called a Stotta to help you remove them perfectly every time.
The come in individual tubs or in a four-division dispenser holding No8, No9, No10 and No11s. The clear top pulls off the plastic containers a bit too readily for my liking, but they fit in my side tray well and in truth I have yet to come across any shot dispenser that Im entirely happy with.
A simple but highly effective idea, Stotz are very user friendly, make fishing easier, and I now make up all my commercial rigs with them.
A very useful hybrid shot that i find very useful for big lines being able to be grouped together and this prevents tangles when shipping your float rig out very useful little item.
