Beginning life in Fargo North Dakota way back in 1934 when inventor Mr. O. G. Schmidt, took a starter motor from a Ford Model A, then added a flexible shaft, and propeller. This very first electric trolling motor quickly became extremely popular and grew into a thriving business. Locating his manufacturing company near the Minnesota/North Dakota border, he decided to call the new company Minn Kota. Now one of the biggest suppliers of outboard trolling motors in the world.
